Printer Driver Manual Removal

Had a spooler printer error that would not go away. Could not delete or uninstall the driver through normal means. Spooler kept hanging…

Here are generic instructions to remove a troublesome printer driver. USE Regedit WITH CAUTION “You break it you bought it”:

Delete SPECIFIC Printer Driver Registry keys

The name of the printer, port monitor, drivers, and print processor will depend on which printer driver you are uninstalling.

On 64 bit machines substitute Windows NT x86 with Windows x64!

Run regedit .
1.      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-3\ (PRINTER MODEL HERE)

2.      2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Print Processors\(PRINTER MODEL HERE)

3.      3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\(PRINTER MODEL HERE)

4.      4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\ (PRINTER MODEL HERE)

Run CCLeaner on the registry after to make sure there are no old branches or references.

You may need to Restart the spooler.

Start > Run…

Type cmd

Type net stop spooler and hit enter

Type net start spooler and hit enter

If you get an “Access denied” message reboot the computer, and try it again.
